OldIronNuts Saturday Tourney: Tall, err...Really Tall and Inorganic

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 08:33 AM PDT

Every Saturday night King OIN holds a casual tournament on his Twitch stream. Tonight we will be running decks that contain at least 21 cards with the word "Sentinel" in the text. These tournaments are held for fun and to encourage originality and creativity so please don't bring a net/meta deck if you plan to participate.

The stream starts at 9pm CDT and unless a lot of people show up early and ready to go, the tourney generally starts 1-2 hours after that. We have very long streams on Saturdays; at least 8 hours but usually 10 or even 12 hours. This means people from many time zones can drop in and play or watch and see if they get inspired to throw a deck together to play with us as long (or briefly) as they wish.

These events are designed with special rules to make people think outside the meta and just have fun; there are no prizes other than bragging rights! Multiple champions can and often are declared when someone on the top of the heap has to leave the stream before it is over. So please do stop by OldIronNuts' Twitch stream tonight to watch our knights, lords and ladies battle it out, and if this sounds fun to you, all you have to do to enter is show up with a Throne deck that conforms to the above rules! We'll save a seat for you in the Great Hall!

You Asked, We Answered! FECast Ep 47 w/ Stormblessed and Sunyveil

    Posted: 16 Oct 2020 09:04 PM PDT

    https://youtu.be/kN1N7MMXPxM

Hey all! This week Stormblessed and I answer questions from the community for about an hour. If your question isn't answered here, it either a) got lumped into another question or b) is going to be part of next week's cast where we talk about the past, present, and future of Eternal. Thanks for all the questions!

This week on FECast, Sunyveil and Stormblessed answer questions from the community!

    ----------

    NotoriousGHP:

How do you think your [Magic: the Gathering] background influenced your success in Eternal? Are there any skills or traits you think you learned more from Magic that you apply regularly, or are they are negative habits or thought processes that you have or had to change that came from being a Magic player at first?

    Snowbird109:

How often should someone "practice" per day to be good?

    rodcop:

Where is the meta at post balance patch?

    KidSneelock:

Do you think DWD should release any new cards or make any balance changes before Worlds?

    find_name_hard:

How are you planning on preparing for Worlds?

    Kallously:

What are your thoughts on the health/diversity/funness of the current meta compared to last year's championship meta?

    Kallously:

Are any sleeper decks on your mind that you feel haven't been quite refined yet?

    WarmFerret:

I commonly see people make judgements about the health of the meta, where they express opinions like "(insert archetype) is everywhere!" or "(card) is so unfun to play against/with" etc etc.

Obviously people have their personal opinions ("do/don't like playing against control," "jekk is un-/fun," etc), but are there any design spaces that are fairly universally loved/hated?

    WarmFerret:

What are your thoughts on random cards, a la Nictotraxian, Invoke, Cargos, Deleph, Knucklebones, etc. Are there situations/decks where you'd favor adding random card generation--for example maybe in a tournament deck it would be valuable to have the ability to invoke something outside your opponent's expectations?

    pruwyben:

If you had to live in Myria, where would you be and what would you do?

    Sspifffyman:

How do you go about upgrading older decks for new ladder metas? For instance I like to play control typically, but am not much of a deckbuilder. How can I update my old Hooru Control deck? And is there a way to do it without straight up brute force testing?

    Tempest Dragon King:

So for a given Eternal competitive environment that you're freshly hopping into, how would you make a deck that plays favorably into many others, I.E. make a new meta deck? How would this process be different than in MtG, if there are any differences?

    LetsTalkLimited:

How do you differentiate between decks that do really well on ladder and tier 1 decks for tournaments? Thanks!

    Nerf2mana241s:

What does a tier 1 Azurite Prixis deck look like?

    Cotillion:

What are some tips for playing against control decks? Are there any overarching strategies or a specific mindset you adopt when facing control?

    meverz:

How do you judge when you should play around something your open any may have, vs play into it? Is it all just feel / experience? Or are there some overarching considerations?

    Essarefess:

What one gameplay thing from another game would you like to see replicated in Eternal? Just make it something that's in-game (as in stuff in an actual match), not something tangential (ex. a feature in the client).

    KidSneelock:

Do you think that DWD likes community-run tournaments and events, or would they prefer to be the main stop for any competitive Eternal events?

    Another mechanics question! Silence!

    Posted: 16 Oct 2020 05:11 PM PDT

I just played a game with Silvercrest Purifier, where I played a seat, followed by Memento Mori making him a 128/128. My opponent cast Worthy Cause to silence it, and it kept it's Attack/Defense.

In a different game with a different deck, I was playing Rindra Infiltrator, and I played a spell, giving her the bonus attack/defense, and attacked. My opponent silenced her (I forget what spell they used) but it took away the attack and defense bonus.

Why would she have lost the stats if the turn hadn't ended and she lost the "until end of turn" text, while Silvercrest Purifier just says +x +x This turn.

And also, Rindra's text does not imply she loses the +4 +4 but she does.
