| EXPD - Rakano Surge is just.....Too Much Posted: 28 Jul 2020 06:54 AM PDT Deck & Proof: https://i.imgur.com/W4Joowf.gifv I had an epic 22-turn game in EXPD where I actually lost with ManaBarb's deck (Modified) after casting: 7x Shen-Ra Speaks (Used 2 Brokers to do this, Killed 2-4 units every time I casted it) 2x Equalize (Killed 2 units once & 7 units once, Discarded about 4 cards total) 2x Just Desserts 1x Gates of Hope (lucky Svetya draw on clean board killed it) 1x Backbreaker (8+ Armor) 1x Grodov's Burden (Killed by Marley pulled from FILP obviously) 3x Brokers (Killed by Jekks/Teluts/Iljins) 3x Diana (Killed by Jekks/Teluts/Iljins) 1x Rolant (I use Shen-Ra & killed 3 units along with it) Any other unit-heavy deck would probably have no chance against this kind of control draw but not Rakano obviously....I think he generated 32+ units in total drawing gas every turn. At the end I was on 18 Life total bashing him with 2 Deadly Valkries, Siphoner Paladin & a 3/3 Relic Weapon whilst holding my 8th Shen-Ra & a Treasure Trove in hand. He was down to 11 Life with 2 cards in hand & no board. You'd think I should win with that board state and hand but no, those 2 cards turned out to be Milos + Ruffian which then came down and hit me for 20+ Overwhelm damage to win the game! Yes it was probably the most fun game ever for the Rakano player, but it was absolutely infuriating for me. Why? Because what won him the game basically were not really the strategy but FILP + Silverblade Intrusion + Ruffian, three absolutely overpowered low-cost cards which should not exist in their current form. The advantage these cards give are just too much & creates scenarios where so many wins are undeserved. Sorry for the salt and this post is not a complaint for my Opp, but I really just wanted to point out how tilted the game can be right now with the unhealthy amount of low-cost swingy cards that help win games too easily. I hope that DWD will learn a good lesson from this for the future, because high influence costs should not become an excuse for printing overpowered effects on low-cost fast spells or summon effects. It only takes a single Ironthorn Lawman to setup the whole absurdness of Rakano Surge for the rest of the game, which is a tiny investment with a reward that farrrrrrrrr outweighs it. Here's a pic and I'll talk about lists and metas and strategies a bit below. Proof: https://imgur.com/hsvA9Kx Throne I hit Masters in Throne a lot earlier than usual, partially because I wanted to do it before the ECQ and winning decklists and the meta was broken. I climbed with Combrei Ramp which was a fun deck and, it turns out, a horrible deck when trying to qualify for the ECQ. It got me to Masters, though, so I won't hate on it. I've since deleted it though, so don't ask me for that list. Instead, here is my updated Even Paladins list, which is 8-1 for me in Masters. https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/7gOhCiC0wrk/even-paladins-masters-july-2020-edition Expedition I know people are mixed on this format right now, but I actually had such as blast climbing Expedition this month, and there was so much variety, that I'm considering it my "main" format over Throne these days. Rakano / Surge seems to be the boogeyman of choice, right now, but my favorite list is Argenport Backbreaker. Here's my version that got me to Masters and has done fine holding its own in the field since then. https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/RZ5YfAr0xNo/argenport-backbreaker-expedition-masters-july-2020 My other favorite Expedition lists include Elysian Wump and TPS Deadly Control, neither of which is as good as Argenport right now, though. Draft I wrapped up Masters in Throne and Expedition early enough this month that eventually I figured I might try to climb my way out of bronze in Draft and see if I could hit the triple crown. It was a pretty time-consuming grind, but I only spent about 20k gold and added some good cards to my collection along the way. Also, I think the Draft format right now is really fun. My favorite draft archetypes involve Fire, right now, and I would force it fairly emphatically. Stonescar treated me well (better than Rakano), I ran 7 with Skycrag, and even hit mono-fire for a 7-1 run at one point. Here's that list, for kicks. Hitting a Flash Fire to the dome for 16 was a highlight (I had Bladerang equipped at the time, if you're curious), and putting Decay on anything with Quickdraw (or vice versa) is pretty ridiculous. (edit: this doesn't work like I thought it did, according to comments. I'll admit no one ever chose to block these units, possibly because they read this combo the same way that I did.) I don't think this is actually worth an AMA, necessarily, I was just feeling cheeky. That said, I'm happy to discuss any of the formats, or answer questions. Opponent had flying unit with attack higher then life and 5 attack and 5 health legendary overwhelm and endurence weapon on it. He attacked my face and i should not die. But i played fast speed Just Desserts on his flying unit and died immediatly when i play that spell. Even before he hits my face. | Please just stop playing Rain of Frogs I'm begging you!!! Posted: 28 Jul 2020 12:14 AM PDT Rain of Frogs is by far the most overrated card in this game right now. There's only like two or three decks the card is genuinely good against, and most of them are also Transpose decks which makes Rain of Frogs super embarassing since they just get to counter your four mana investment with with their Transpose while also marketing for a card that actually has text. Sure, sometimes you'll randomly snipe three copies of something out of their hand or whatever, but most of the time the card is just a huge tempo disadvantage that accomplishes very little. Like hell, I played Feln Any Cost combo almost exclusively to master and even though Rain of Frogs is theoretically good against that deck I still won about half the games my opponent resolved it in. If you're not sniping a card your opponent absolutely NEEDS to win the game, like Worldypre, the card just sucks. Seriously just stop putting this card in your market, you'll win more games I promise. Not only will you get to play a card that actually does something instead, but you also can't be that person who fetches it against a deck it's terrible against and wonders why they lost!
