First thing is first, welcome to Eternal. I am sure one of the first 3 questions you are going to ask is "How do I play this game for free or for as cheap as possible?" and I have some great new player steps that you can take to make the beginning of a new account much easier. on the experience of getting into the game.

Start off with Campaigns. These are the single player story portion of the game and while some of them have become obsolete a lot of them are still staples in the game and major power cards. It is a little difficult to tell you want one to focus on because this depends on what kind of player you want to be. It depends on what kind of deck style you like but of all of them I would suggest to grab Shadow of the Spire as your first one (As of September 2020). This is not a full campaign but a mini set. Found in the store tab, once bought will give you instant access to all the cards. These are 1k gems or 25k gold to buy. If anything this is where I say you spend some money and buy the campaigns. You can for sure grind the gold out but if you can afford and you are willing to spend some money this is where to do it. It will save you a load of time and get you some of the deck defining cards we all use on a daily basis.

The single best way to get a bunch of cards is the monthly sealed events. This is something that starts on the 1st of every month for Leagues cost 12,500 gold or 1,100 gems to enter. They can be joined at any point during the month's Chapter. A premium entry option is also available for 5,000 gems. This may seem like a lot of gold but trust me. It is incredibly easy to get so long as you play every day. I would never recommend spending the gems unless you REALLY want shiny versions of the cards but that is not needed at all. So what is this event? Well, sealed event is a month long event that you should enter every single month.

When you join a league, you will receive and open 8 packs. These cards are used to build a 45-card deck. You get additional packs for each week of the league. 2 per week for a total of 14 packs for that month. If you look at the store a single pack of cards is worth 1k so you are already ahead in value with this. Then using those cards you build a 45 card deck that you will use to play games against other people also in the event. At the end of the month you will gain even MORE packs and other rewards for how well you did. This is by far the best value for your gold and you also gain a cardback!

Make sure to watch your quests. If you get a silver chest reward and have LESS THAN 3 DAILIES you can re-roll it and try for a gold chest reward quest. If it does not happen just go play the game and do not worry about it. Once you have 3 quests tho, re-roll one of them that is hard for you to complete and then do one that is easy for you. This does not always work out perfectly like this as you will typically end up just by chance finish other quests but this lets you store dailies while going for gold chest rewards. Do all of the beginning quests tho that are given to you as a new account. Once you start getting normal quests is when you can start messing with this.

The simple Daily PvP win. All you have to do is queue for Expedition or for Throne and win a game. Even with the worst of a deck eventually you will get a win and with this you get a free pack of the newest set of cards. There are also chests to open for winning games in PvP and you can use this to farm gold. First 2 are red chests and the 3rd one is a silver chest. You can get 3 total base Silver chests each day for Expedition and Throne and after you open 3 the silver chest turns into 2 red chests. Each time you open a chest there is a 10% chance that it will upgrade to one higher with Diamond chest being the top. Make sure to get all the silver chests each day. You can check your progress on this by clicking the little book icon that holds your daily quests.

Gauntlet is a mode where you can go against the AI with any deck you have. Climb up through this mode to Master rank ASAP. This is THE best thing for you to do to get some gold and cards in your collection. There are many lists online you can find that are built for gauntlet and there are even players that spend most of their time playing only Gauntlet. It is a run of 7 games where until Diamond rank you can lose more than once. The 7th fight is against a boss and there is a special condition to the game that is played here. Even after you reach Master rank, if you have a deck that is tuned for Gauntlet and you understand how to manipulate the AI this is going to be a great source of gold income. I would do this AFTER you get the 6 silver chests from Constructed format each day tho.

Forge is like a mini draft event and this is also played against AI. This mode shows you 3 cards at a time and you pick them to make a 45 card deck. Power is put into the list for you and you can also take this to Master rank. Once you get to Master rank I would not play this anymore as it will cost you more to enter than the rewards that will be given to you. Both of these formats, Gauntlet and Forge to recent every time a new set comes out so once that happens be sure to get in there day one and get this to Master once again.
Once you have 30k gold I would suggest entering a draft and you can either try and build a real deck or you can greed draft. Greed draft is just grabbing all legendary, rare and premium cards and then resign the vent. I typically do this to get a bigger collection as well as some shiftstone to be able to craft cards that I might be missing. Drafting will be a great source of cards for the gold you spend as well. Just have to decide if you want to try and play it or just get as many cards as you can.

This part only works for PC / MAC.Make a Twitch account if you do not have one already and in game link your accounts. Then go to the Eternal directory and watch streamers. The community on Twitch is fantastic people, super welcoming and genuine people that love to share what they are doing. This also gives you Blue orb passive points that I honestly at the moment can not remember the name of. Little red chests will pop up on the screen and you can click those for a little extra points. You also will get in game drops for watching streams and these will be random cards but Premium versions, aka shiny / Foils. This is a fantastic way to gain a ton of cards. Spend your Passive points in game in the store. Bottom of the screen on the right you will see a tab for these blue orbs and you can buy things there. Get all of the card bundles first before going on to buying cosmetics and such. I get that some people can not watch as much as others and for that I would tell you to tune into a Twitch stream and then let it run over night. All of the Eternal streamers are aware of the lurkers and will host other Eternal streamers all day. You will get passed around even tho there is a daily limit. For the chests tho, you do have to click them yourself tho.

If you are familiar with card games and want to take a risk, doing all the things above will gain you some cards and you can destroy the cards to get shiftstone. This is the currency to craft cards you want. Find a deck that is very well tuned and doing well and build that deck and use that to win games and farm gold to then be able to go up higher in the season ranks. It is a slow process but in the long run if done correctly you can get cards quicker as you win more games from the start. Again tho, this is a BIG risk to your collection tho so ONLY do this if you are comfortable with this style of game and have a great background in them. If this is not something you are comfortable with then look for some budget decks. These are decks people put together for people that are in your shoes and are tuned to be able to win games on a decently consistent basis so that you can gain gold and get quests done and such as spoken above. No shame in running a budget deck, sometimes budget decks can be T1 meta crushing monsters at times. We all started with nothing at one point.

I am a player that has played this game for free from the start. One campaign was bought ad I also have some cosmetics but I always make sure I have the gold for the next campaign that comes out and then from there I just save up gold for when a new set comes out I can hop into draft and get some cards and a bunch of Shiftstone to craft what I want to play with. It is a grind for sure and takes a lot of time but the pay off is great. I spend a lot of my time brewing lists, testing lists, testing for other people or searching for just super fun lists. I offer some further help in seeing what lists I am running that month. I offer help in fixing a deck you are playing with. I offer help learning how to brew a deck of your own as well as even sitting in game with you and helping you learn how to play things in the correct order to gain the most advantages in winning. If this is something you are interested in or know someone that could use that help check out this link here. https://www.patreon.com/EternallyAsmo

Hopefully this can help anyone that is new to this game and if there are any questions feel free to comment or if you would rather message you can do that as well. I am extremely active each day and will see your message and get back to you when I can. Good luck to you!

Is Eternal a healthy game? Are there enough players?

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 01:24 PM PDT

    https://steamcharts.com/app/531640

As you can see here the number of players is okay. Far off from the all time high but okay. Compared to LoR or Hearthstone the numbers are ridiculous low. But compared to Spellweaver insanely high. ;-)

The big question: Are there enough players? Normally I find an opponent in less than 30 seconds. So I would say yes.

But are there also enough players who pay money? As you know money runs the world. And without money Eternal and DWD would no longer be.

My hope is that there are WAY more players on XBox, PS4, Switch, iOS and Android.

Unfortunately I did not find any numbers.

What are your thoughts? Has Eternal a bright future? Will it shut down in a year?

Don't get me wrong! I am more than happy to spend some money in this nice game. But spend some money in a game which lies in dying? I don't know...

Silver Night not working as expected?

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 10:08 AM PDT

I was playing Darktalon Wyvarch and hit the opponent milling the top unit of their deck. I played Silver Night with the primal portion active, killed a unit and only drew 1 card. Doesn't the primal portion read for each unit that went to the enemy void this turn, draw a card. Shouldn't I have drawn 2. 1 from the mill and 1 from the kill from silver night itself? I reported this in game, I just thought I'd get some community feedback and let people know.

Just a thought about powercard designspace - and lands

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 05:37 PM PDT

Number 1 reason I really like eternal: It makes use of being a digital card game by using mechanics which are impossible with RL-cards.
    - transforming cards
    - changing stats of cards permanently
    - multiplying cards

    etc.

Plunder would be the latest of such mechanics which I think are just genius and basically the reason this game needs to exist.

But.. and heres the reason for my post. Lands are the only thing I like better about MTG then eternal. And I dont mean the cluncky having to tap every single one. I mean the diversity and the activateable abilitys.

    Just some thoughts about powercards/lands

These cards are generically less interesting then playables. And though managing the number of resources vs playables in a deck is interesting, lategame drawing a resource often times just doesnt give u many options on what to do. Its noteworthy that in hearthstone you only draw 3 cards (cause u dont need to draw resource cards) while magic and eternal have a more similar 7. This means u have roughly the same amount of playables early, as in hearthstone u basically get your lands for free.

This gets scewed though in the later stages. Theres no flooding in hearthstone as u cant draw lands. As most eternal decks have 1/3 sigils this means u usually draw 33% less playables after the mulligan then in hearthstone. Thats kinda curious as I think hearthstone is pretty much inferior in every other way but this aspect I think is an actual Pro.

Magic combats this by making very interesting lands. Thats only possible in eternal to a certain extend as designspace on powercards is way more limited then on lands (ofc. this might change but the implications for the game in its current state would be drastic.)

For now powercards get printed with alot lower variance then lands. Also they usually never have any ongoing effects which limits ur choices per turn. We have interesting power cards but its not like they leave you with 4 activateable lands on turn 7 giving u extra choices of what u can do.

The funny thing is I actually think it could be a good idea to just make a cardgame where you draw 2 cards per turn. (thereby extending ur playables per turn to 133% on average and increasing ur choices instead of just playing ur topdeck.)

But getting back to eternal Im really not sure how power cards could get to this level of complexity. And Im noticing that this seems to take away some of the choices I get offered playing magic.

Dont know if anyone thinks about this in a similar manner but I felt like sharing my thoughts.

p.s. Yes i realise some of the power cards try to avoid this problem.
Tramsmutes are in my mind the most interesting solution. (As a Teleport f.e. often gives u many many options on how to use it)
The decimate land are similar though the minions they create are very very generic.
Cylixes in my mind are the worst solution so far. The idea is good but they are so out of balance to the other power cards that u usually just feel screwed if your opponents draws more of them then u. No choices there just he gets an extra card and u dont even though u both put the maximum amount of cylixes you could into ur deck (which is the main problem here). Not good card design (at least from a competetive viewpoint).
