Let's shape up the Community Wiki for the new launches (help, please)!

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 02:05 PM PDT

Hi all! With the new set about to release, and Eternal launching on Switch right after, I'm anticipating an uptick in traffic over on the Eternal Card Game Wiki.

For anyone unfamiliar with the wiki, its a community-maintained resource, kind of a fan encyclopedia on the game. We try to supplement other great Eternal resources, like EternalWarcry and the many great strategy sites.

There' a lot we try to do, and more we'd like to add, but some parts of the wiki have fallen behind. Some important pages are incomplete 'stubs', and others haven't been created yet. I'd like to get as much as possible up-to-date over the next week or so, so that players joining our community through Switch, or coming back to the game for The Flame of Xulta, can find the information they're looking for.

For anyone with some time to spare, here's some of things we could use help with:

    • Finishing & updating card type pages
    • Creating an explainer for the Expedition format and its history
    • Filling out keyword & mechanics pages, especially information where the mechanic has unintuitive interactions.
    • Crediting artists and voice actors where you know which card(s) they worked on.
    • Feedback on the wiki in general, especially its usability. Browse around, see how easy or hard it is to find things, let us know what does and doesn't work (or is outright broken). If you've visited before and been turned off by the experience, let us know why.

Feel free to edit the wiki directly, even if its minor changes. You don't need a Fandom account to update things.

If you have feedback, questions, or want to help out, comment here or join us on the wiki's Discord!

    Casual vs Practice?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 09:06 AM PDT

About a month ago DWD announced the return of the "Casual" button. I see in the same post that there may be some differences, but to me this is never clearly explained. I would like to know what, if anything, is the difference.

Friendly reminder to finish gauntlet/forge before monday if you haven't done so already.

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 08:47 PM PDT

For those of you who do not know, forge and gauntlet are reset when a new set drops. Hit masters in both before the reset!

    Happy spoiler season!

    Hate cards in Eternal

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 09:38 AM PDT

I like to play a lot of Casual after getting to Diamond each month (I just don't care to grind to Masters. Never have and likely never will.) I've noticed in 4 of my 5 games today that my opponents would turn 4 [[Royal Decree]]. I had one opponent who turn 3 [[Jenev Merchant]], Turn 4 [[Avigraft]], and turn 5 [[Citywide Ban]].

I think it's healthy for a card game to have hate cards. These are usually in the sideboard for swapping in between matches in a best of 3 format and I think that's where they belong. Unfortunately, most of us do not play that format and I find it incredibly oppressive to get royal decreed, avigrafted, rain of frogsed (?,) and citywide banned almost every single game. We are all more or less playing wish boards and for some reason, I've seen a number of casual players main decking and finding it fun to play a deck full of hate cards.

Again, I understand the purpose of these cards, but considering the format that's played on ladder (singleton,) do we really need these cards running around that leaves the card in your opponents deck and then they draw it and lose a turn and maybe can't ever win after that? In MtG, these cards typically discard them from the deck or exile them from the game. In Eternal, I get a card Avigrafted and might have another in hand and will in many circumstances draw 2-3 more copies of a card that is a dead draw.

Royal decree gives you a [[seek power]], which is not completely useless. [[Rain of frogs]] gives a frog with destiny, which is not terrible, since it gets played and you draw another card. Avigraft gives you a valkyrie if you can manage to get rid of it. There's no counterplay to citywide ban, but it's not really played except by my casual opponents.

TLDR: Is there not a better way to approaching these hate cards? Do we really need to have wishboards? Do we really need people stuffing these cards into their casual decks and raining on everybody's parade in the casual queue? I just feel like there has to be a better way to approach all of this. Maybe it's just me.

Do we know if the Switch will use the PC or the mobile layout?

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 12:46 PM PDT

The picture in the announcement article seems to use the PC layout, which would be great, but not sure how true it is vs how much it is just a representation. Any info on that?

Unitless Garden Control - Deck Tech

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 07:47 PM PDT

As the last days of Dark Frontier wraps up and we all start to look towards the release of Flame of Xulta, a new deck has taken over the meta and become more popular with ladder climbers. We'll never know the extent of the impact that Unitless Garden Control will have had on the old meta because it arrived so shortly before the new set is going to drop, but I look forward to seeing how it fares in the new one. The Unitless Garden Control deck tech written by myself and camat0, takes a look at the game plan of the deck as well as some tech options - hopefully in a way that allows you to figure out how best to configure this deck for Flame of Xulta.

    Game breaking bug

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 09:21 PM PDT

Twice in the past 2 days, I have been forced to concede the game because out of nowhere for seemingly no reason I am completely unable to interact with the game in any way other than passing my turn. Indescribably frustrating. Not only can I not play the game because of unitless control, now I cant play the game because the game wont let me
