Farming Eternal Ep93: Draft Changes and Deck Archetype Breakdown

    Posted: 25 Apr 2021 09:42 AM PDT

Welcome to Ep. 93 of Farming Eternal. This week Patrick and HatsonLamps would like everyone to give their great guest this week, Cotillion's Show Notes, a warm welcome. While Cotillion's Show Notes didn't talk much during the episode, Patrick thinks you will be impressed by the insight and energy they bring to the episode. It's amazing how much Cotillion's Show Notes shaped the episode in so few words. This week, with the help of Cotillion's Show Notes, Patrick and HatsonLamps discuss the new draft pack changes. The pack order is changing, new cards are being added, and weightings are changing so there is a lot to unpack. Patrick and HatsonLamps also wade in and discuss what are the top decks they expect to see for the Draft Qualifier for those of you just getting into set. For you old HatsonLamps, Patrick is sure you will hear some familiar deck faces.

If this is your first-time hearing about the podcast, you can send your 7-win deck lists by email to farmingeternal@gmail.com or post them in the discord. (link to join the discord is below). Thank you to all the players for submitting your decks this past week.

Please give us a lend deck function for friend matches!

    Posted: 24 Apr 2021 03:58 PM PDT

Recently introduced a couple of my friends to the game and this is a feature I think would be great for the game. One of the things I would do in paper card games with new players is lend them a deck I think they would like, to show them what is possible and see what kind of play styles they might enjoy. Perhaps a similar function could be added to eternal, where you could allow friends to use one of your decks against you.

Went for a certain rank in both constructed formats for the lulz and managed to hit it. Wish I could just freeze it here for the month!

Heyo everyone, new Tournaments in Retrospect article! Bit shorter than usual due to time constraints and all, unfortunately, but there were some fairly neat decks in the recent Expedition TNE.

Please help me with my sealed pool.

This is the most I have struggled with a sealed deck since I have been playing the game. I'm at 5-10 atm, and no matter what I seem to build, it just either gets outaggroed, outvalued, or something else happens that makes it difficult or impossible to win. I'm missing a few cards because of the deck size limit, but its mostly just 2 copies of a few cards as well as the influence fixing, which i don't have much of. Please and thank you. Have a great day.

[HYPOTHETICAL FEATURE REQUEST] Ping Player & Give Time

    Posted: 24 Apr 2021 12:33 PM PDT

    Hello all,

So I've noticed a few posts recently on the toxicity of some of the players in Eternal. Now, personally I only meet 1 toxic player like once per 40 - 50 games. For the most part, we've got a great community but in a way, I do attribute that to the size of the community as well and I feel that as the community grows, more toxic players will enter the game with it.

Another complaint is the problem of roping. Unfortunately I won't discuss this one too much because in truth I even think my own solution for it is bad. However, I do feel like there should be something done about people who are reported for roping, and that reporting for such a thing should be an option. Now, the reason I'm skipping addressing this is because I like to give my opponent the benefit of the doubt and say that they're thinking about doing some 5D-chess level plays. Most of my experience when playing against or watching well-known streamers is that this is exactly what they do. They're taking time to think about the move, what possible cards I may have in hand given the deck I'm playing, why there was a pause at X power with what possible Fast Spells I may be running because of it, etc.

With that said, I want to bring up some features that I think may at least reduce this sort of behavior. I bring this up on this subreddit first because I might be tunnel visioning, and seeing only the good without seeing the bad. Therefore, I wanted to get the community's insight on these 2 feature requests before I send feedback to DWD to include these features.

    Ping Player:

Basically, this would just be a simple button that pops up above or below the "Mute" option when clicking the opponent's avatar that basically pings if the opponent is still there. Obviously this should be limited in number of uses (let's say, 3) or the frequency with which it can be used (let's say, once per 90 seconds).

This would then pop up a chat box from your avatar to the opponent (regardless of mute status) that says something like: "You still there?". Then, the opponent can click on your avatar and click "Send Pong" which would then result in your avatar saying something like: "Yes, I am." and the game goes on normally.

If the opponent doesn't reply within say, 45 seconds, because they went AFK to draw the game out and waste your time or they've disconnected (either intentionally or unintentionally), you grab the win.

    Give Time:

This one is a "good mannered" move so-to-speak. This is for when you and the opponent are both having a pretty tough match full of complicated decisions and the both of you know it. Knowing that the timer might be too short to make the match great, you can give them time. Let's say +30s each time you "Give Time" with no notification (as to not spam your opponent with chat stuff).

The only real way to know your opponent has given you time is if the timer has started counting down (the two lights around your avatar) and suddenly it disappears without you taking any actions.

I think this can also be useful in tournaments that are streamed. Once the referees sees that one of the players has disconnected and/or is experiencing technical difficulties, they can request that the other player "Give Time" up to X seconds until they just determine that the opponent won't be coming back any time soon.

Please let me know what you think about my suggestions, thank you for taking time out of your day to read my long post and may your topdecks win you the game.

    This game is infuriating

    Posted: 24 Apr 2021 09:37 AM PDT

The first problem, the idle timer takes way too long. The game ends up being so slow when people take 20 seconds to end their turn out of power and no creatures to attack with. People also love to go afk when they know they are going to lose instead of just letting it end or conceding.

Second problem, the shuffler is horrible. Using the same deck I get one game of 7 turns with no power cards drawn and then very next game, same deck, I draw 5 power cards in a row and lose the game. This is with having 8 low cost plunder cards in the deck. It's so stupid when you lose game after game not because the other player was better but because the shuffler fucks you over. It ruins the fun of the game. Being a digital card game they could fix this but for some reason keeping it random makes it better when it actually doesn't.

    Let's talk about: Toxicity

    Posted: 23 Apr 2021 03:42 PM PDT

This one's gonna be long, if you wanna see the jist of it, go to the bottom.

I haven't been an active player for some time cause of the growing number of obligations I've had over the past couple of months. But before that, I was very active, reaching Masters multiple times, saw the best and worst of Throne, Draft, and recently Expedition, usually playing jank, and almost never ran into jackasses.

But in the past 2 months I've decided to come back and play more, and I must say, after reaching Diamond this month, I've lost the will to play Throne.

For one, everyone is tierwhoring and a metaslave, tier 0 decks everywhere you go, rarely do you see a tier 1-2 deck, God forbid a janky homemade brew. I'm used to this, played MTG and Hearthstone for years, but in Eternal it's just crazy. I don't want to play a game where 60% of a faction of every deck is the same rotation of cards. A game with some many cards and mechanics becomes boring if only a fraction of them are used. Card games are supposed to be innovative, and you can reach high ranks if you play jank, trust me.

Second of all, the salty ones. There are so many people who, be it a lost or won game, just rope you till you uninstall. Today I had around 7-8 of these cases, in like 15 games. That's just apsurd, and there is nothing that anyone can do about it. Plus if you play fast decks, it makes a 4-5 minute game into a 10 minute game for no reason. And the emote spam, I almost always mute at the start of the game, but when I forget or I'm lazy, I'm usually reminded why I do it. And I don't know about you, but some of the messages I've gotten from losing players that added me remind me of old Halo days or Mortal Kombat online.

The thing is, I've only noticed these salty players in Diamond and Master, anything bellow was mostly fine, when someone knew it was lost, good ridance.

I wanna know what kind of experience you guys had and if you think that the current state of affairs is kinda bad, or if I'm just an oversensitive talk-a-lot.

TL;DR: Everyone is tierwhoring and high throne is full of salty players that wanna make a nice game into a rope fest.
