Eternal Card Game Chill and enjoy the ride

    Chill and enjoy the ride

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 07:22 AM PST

I was going to come and complain about the lack of variety in both throne and expedition (yeah, I know, get in line). Was too tired to post fortunately and realized that I was probably part of the problem and not the cure playing the same decks I was going to complain about.

So I decided to stop worrying about my rank (being in bronze in expedition) and simply have fun. Not saying I'm only playing meme decks, but a bit more relaxed at least. If you can appreciate your opponents crazy turns at times and laugh at your losses the game becomes vastly more fun. Sure, winning is fun, but having fun playing is more important to me. As long as I get my daily win I'm happy.

Harder to let throne slip as I haven't been below gold for years until recently but even here I try focus on the fun parts. So even when you face the 17th Kairos deck in a row, laugh at it and hope to hit your own Kairos first in your super extreme greed pile.

    11/12/2019 Update

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 10:16 AM PST

    Bug Fixes:

    • Fixed an issue where Varret, Hero-in-Training would sometimes incorrectly retain temporary invulnerability for the remainder of the game.
    • Kairos' Choice should no longer be able to be played on an enemy unit that is invulnerable to damage.
    • Fixed an issue where Parul's Choice would not be respondable in some cases.
    • Fixed an issue where it was not possible to tell what Cruelty was targeting when played from Outcast Fortress.
    • Cast into Shadow should no longer allow a second target selection if the first target had Aegis.
    • Fixed several issues with the response window timing of Cast into Shadow.
    • Fixed an issue where units that self-sacrifice to deal damage would not grant health to the player if that unit had Lifesteal.
    • Harsh Rule played with Ageworn Vestige should now function properly even if the player has a Vargo Redclaw in play.
    • Fixed an issue where Yisha, the Equalizer would not trigger properly for units with certain equal stat values.
    • Fixed an issue where silenced copies of Vargo Redclaw could not be killed by non-damage effects.
    • Fixed an issue where the game would sometimes hang if Clan Tactic was drawn by Eilyn, Queen of the Wilds and no valid targets were available.

    In the Corner Stands TheBoxer

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 07:10 AM PST

Team Rankstar member and math prodigy TheBoxer joins us!

    https://www.buzzsprout.com/261162/2046408-theboxer

TheBoxer talks removal, priority, and Simon & Garfunkel. We play "Name That Card", Jason pronounces nearly every word correctly, and Mark learns a lesson about Decimate. Is the priority system broken? It gets debated in Mark and TheBoxer Can't Possibly Disagree. Mark summarizes a series of articles TheBoxer wrote for Team Rankstar and everyone discusses the changes to QCP points.

Trying to understand the priority system in Eternal is a head-scratcher. TheBoxer shares what he's learned and helps you time your removal spells. I'm still confused, though in fairness, I'm not very smart. TheBoxer reinforces this when he breakdowns the simplicity of the math problem in "Good Will Hunting" to me.

Or just skip to the end and listen to us sing!

Follow TheBoxer on Twitter. And here's the first article in his series.

TDC's Flame of Xulta Draft Tier List

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 01:12 AM PST

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SrLxMStI7lel98Q8h8zLeO7zom-XW1VR8SYfFi55SNI/edit#gid=930414301

Hello and welcome! Team Draft Chaff is back with another tier list, with ratings from six people who are far too obsessed with all things draft: Flash2351, Isomorphic, Mgallop, NorthernPolarity, PleasingFungus and Drifter. Special thanks to F0x for helping with the formatting, and for graciously allowing DWD to use his name for the new set.

We're using a completely new rating system this time, which we explain in the FAQ section. Enjoy!

    Proposal: Allow Crests in Expedition

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 12:43 PM PST

I'm not one to make complaining about power a big deal in CCGs, and I'm sorry I'm bringing this up now. Look, I get variance is a thing; you're not going to draw the right power all the time. But I feel the Expedition format is unnecessarily made more difficult to play without the scout mechanic that comes from Crests. I'm playing decks with 25 power and a combination of 4 Seek Power and a Vara's Favor or two. And consistently, I ship back two power hands only to draw down to 6 cards and still only get 2 power. If even one of those power were a Crest, it would go a long way towards making the game more competitive and more enjoyable.

I am sure there are arguments for keeping Crests out. And one could argue that 29 power is not sufficient. And yet, there is simply nothing more frustrating than going down to 6, stuck on two power, never drawing a seek power, with literally nothing to do but pass the turn.

    Lingnoi_401's Hooru curse

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 05:22 AM PST

    Here ,the deck list

    https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/Bh2D8QfF_Sc/lingnoi-401s-hooru-curse

This deck build around Kodosh Sees All and focus on use curse to support it

The early game by drawing, search for power, and use curse for prevent enemy attack you

After you have 7 power the game change by use Kodosh Sees All for generate the token

that has status depend on curse as win condition

But you must remember one thing. If you opponent play time, justice, fire. It has spell for remove the curses. You must keep unseal until it.However the problem is the unit that can destrol the relic when summon,I have no solution to solve this problem

I think you might have a question about some card that I use in this deck

    Q:Why don't play tri-color curse deck?

A:The problem about tricolor curse deck is curse from shadow faction.Mostly It uses on unit, that it very easy to remove the curses, but as you see many card target the player that is difficult to remove.

Q:Why I use petition instead seek power ?

A:If I use seek power Sediti will be hard to play because crazily influence requiremen

Also Sediti generate a curse too this is why I use him

    Q:Why I use Tidal Forces ?

A:The reason is it must use for trigger onslaugt and pristine light

Q:Why don't put Parul, Sealkeeper in this deck

A:Even it can make token have double damage ,but it's easily to kill As attacker, he is useless because when opponent has many unit on board .It has no way to attack player directly

This deck is Alpha stage and might be change after the final stage after develop and play test.

Ps:I have 3 project about the new deck . One of them have at least 8 card that has need high power to play. I hope It' will complete before the next season

I hope you have fun with my deck and thank you for play it

Update: RNG's opinions on Worlds 2020

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 05:00 PM PST

I originally made a quality of life wishlist post and a post about what I felt were the missing pieces, so now that we have additional clarification including more or less the entire 2019 season I thought I would update my thoughts on the matter.

First, let's take a look at the clarified information. Draft has been adding as a major tournament similar to the Draft Masters tournament last year. Like that one, you only need a single Masters finish to enter (though it does not need to be Top 100). Additionally, Duel/Melee events have been updated to be six runs each and run every single weekend. Finally, we know the vast majority of the ways to qualify for the Eternal World Championship.

Between the defending World Champion (1), nine ECQ winners (9), six Quarterly Championship winners (6), and the Top 4 from the Eternal Draft Championship (4), 20 of the 24 seats at the 2020 Eternal World Championship are accounted for.

    Now, onto my opinions.

    The Positives

    • Tournament frequency has been answered - there's now one, and often two, real tournaments every single week. If you want to play for stakes, there are always opportunities to do so.
    • The Quarterly Championship is essentially an open event. With the number of events, if you want to qualify, you can. This is good, since nobody needs to worry about grinding ladder to reach qualification thresholds - there's more than enough points from events.
    • Similarly, Quarterly Championship Byes are also very attainable for those who wish to spend the time to get them. This properly rewards players who spend the time to get the results, while also allowing anyone to enter the QC.
    • QCPs are awarded in game and viewable in profile. This is excellent, as you can always be sure you get the points you deserve and can easily keep track of what you still need to do to get where you want to be.
    • Expedition got a proper ladder and Throne actually got renamed Throne. Though I don't know why Casual is between Expedition and Throne...
    • Event calendar may not exist in a calendar form, but we know the dates and formats of all tournaments leading up to the 2020 Quarterly Championships. That's way better than we usually get, and a thank you to DWD for doing so. Now if we only also had scheduled patch days...

    The Negatives

    • Stacked tournaments. I'm well aware its a result of the timing of scheduling and will likely be fixed for the next quarter, but its still super lame.
    • The grind. That's a lot of games per weekend, especially when events stack up. Yes, you can stop playing once you've reached your threshold, but you need to do everything you can to reach that threshold because:
    • Winner take all. Regular performance is still not rewarded. With the exception of the Eternal Draft Championship, every tournament is winner take all in terms of invites, so players need to chase those byes to give themselves the best chance possible.
    • Format focus (or lack thereof). The draft championship offers as many invites as the Throne ECQs do. Focusing on only a single format limits you to only 7 or 8 Worlds qualification slots - a third of the total you could be fighting for. Rather than allowing players to choose their format, this setup creates a "seesaw" effect on the ladders, where everyone plays Ex one week, then Throne the next. That's tough on the players (and you need to fit in draft too one month).

    The Sideboard

    • Worlds format.
    • Cost of tournament entry.

    The Alternative(s)

While I don't know what the final four seats are earmarked for, I would love to see another Showdown like last year, where success in QCs and ECQs can actually translate towards a shot at worlds without winning outright. Even just awarding QCP for ECQs would go a long way towards tying the tournament structure together, rather than a bunch of open entry tournaments you try to spike.

Additionally, if we're interested in legitimately allowing players to "choose their format" rather than forcing serious players to compete in both formats simultaneously, a better alternative would be to offer shared QCP that can be earned in both formats, then allow qualifying players to play in one of the two Quarterly Championships (of their choice). They get to pick their format without feeling disadvantaged as they get the same chances as everyone else - one QC per cycle.

Can we sticky or sideboard the competitive event schedule?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 05:02 PM PST

    QCP-granting events:

    • 11/1 – 11/4: Throne Duel & Expedition Melee
    • 11/8 – 11/11: Expedition Melee
    • 11/15 – 11/18: Throne Duel
    • 11/22 – 11/25: Expedition Melee
    • 11/29 – 12/2: Throne Duel
    • 12/6 – 12/9: Throne Duel
    • 12/13 – 12/16: Expedition Melee
    • 12/20 – 12/23: Throne Duel
    • 12/27 – 12/30: Expedition Melee

    ECQs:

    • 11/16 - 11/17: Expedition
    • 12/14 - 12/15: Throne

    Also of note:

    • this next weekend will have both an ECQ and a QCP-granting weekend event
    • QCP-granting events allow 6 runs of 7 games
    • past ECQs had an ~18 game qualifier stage

The 3 decks in Expedition are real fun right now /s

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 02:20 PM PST

Just a little exhausting trying to be a bit of a Timmy and not play the 3 decks ( cult, curse, Oni). If you try to build to compete with one, you get stomped by the others.

I know, quit being a pleb and join the crowd. I got drawn into Eternal because of the variety. Guess those days are gone.
