Thank you, DWD, for the excellent card art in this release!

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 11:12 AM PDT

I am absolutely loving all of the new landscape art cards like the Etchings cards, Land's Edge, Reflection!

As a former paper-MTG player, nice landscape cards like all the lands in MTG were what I was missing the most.

I just wish more of them were power cards or relics so I could admire them more during the match!

I also dig all the character portraits with interesting backgrounds like Natural Order and Midnight Hunt.

I'm also getting huge sliver vibes from Prism Golem, which triggered my nostalgia.

Just wanted to say thank you! With my state, AZ, being hit pretty hard right now with COVID, this is going to be a nice distraction.

    Argent Depths Theme Deck Bundle!

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 09:10 AM PDT

Reminder: buy the individual theme decks BEFORE you buy the bundle if you want to double up.

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 01:50 PM PDT

If you buy the bundle first, historically, you've not been able to buy the individual theme decks after, which sucks if you want to get both to double your count of easy legendary and rare cards that are included.

DWD - Please, please, pretty please add an "Open all" button ASAP

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 01:05 PM PDT

Seriously, it's super tedious to open all these packs. I'd rather spend the time trying out the new awesome cards.

Or at least speed up the animations when opening packs.

One last spoiler review while we wait for launch!

Meta snapshot for the last weeks

Meta snapshot for the last weeks

Top: breakdown of deck popularity by color combination and archetype, middle distribution of fair vs. unfair and fast vs. slow decks, colored dots represent mean values for decks playing a particular faction. Botton percentage of decks playing any particular faction.

There we go. I managed to get immensely crunched for time, due to work requirements and didn't figure out where to publish this or get in touch with the people I wanted to get in touch with (particularly u/NotoriousGHP). But at least I managed to collect 101 games in Expedition and 126 in Throne.

    I would like to thank
    pruwyben
    MoMoi4
    sleepfighter
    Kasaneru
    Kosmiker
    Legato
    Sandalphon
    and
    Kcnabrev

    for contributing data.

There was not enough diversity in the decks played by contributors to make any meaningful analysis of win rates.

In Expedition we saw Fire and Time based decks dominate in the last few weeks, with Praxis Aggro and Vox variants alone taking up more than a quarter of the meta. Argenport shows up with two builds, one based on unseen interactions, the other more of a good stuff deck - some of the later variants made use of the pre-released Rolant, both playing slower games than the two top decks. Coming in after this in popularity are the Feln decks, which are mostly mill based and the closest thing to a popular control deck in Expedition, followed by Rakano aggro, a range of Skycrag decks (mostly dragons), a range of FTJ builds, Combrei (mostly aggro, some armory) and mono fire.

In Throne Icaria builds sit on top of the food chain, with Feln midrange at the top. Mill exists, but is not nearly as popular as in expedition - the Throne deck wants to disrupt the opponent and finish with Icaria or Champion of Cunning. The Xenan Icaria plays similarly, getting to utilize banish as a broader answer than the Feln decks have at their disposal. Both decks are shadow midrange with a splash more than anything else. Skycrag comes next, mostly with aggressive builds, sometimes utilizing Yeti synergies, and sometimes not, Spellcrag was present but rare. The first genuine control decks that make up a relevant portion of the meta are Hooru unitless control and FTJ control (Hooru also had a few other builds). Mono fire and Combrei aggro round out the aggro section of the meta, while both Argenport and Stonescar come in a variety of midrange builds. Throne has a larger portion of "dark matter", where rare faction combinations show up.

If Expedition has been mostly about Jekk and Milos and to a slightly lesser extend Supplier and Kato, Throne is really about the Icarias right now. Looking at the color distributions we see that Primal is the least popular in Expedition, while it is close to the top in Throne - and Primal tends to make decks slower and often times less fair (I am aware of the criticism this category has faced and for the next round of data collection it has been changed) - Fire, on the other hand, pushes towards fast and fair builds. As a result, the two formats were rather distinct.

If you want to contribute: the new Questionaire is here. Next time I'll hopefully manage to get the graphics out nicer and maybe not just publish as a post (I do have vacation days coming up to rejig some of my tools)...

New player looking for a budget Throne decklist

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 08:02 AM PDT

Hey, I'm a longtime MtG player, and I decided to give eternal a try yesterday! I've found myself a lovely budget skycraggro deck, which is doing pretty well, and I have an "eh" Hooru control deck, however, I can't for the life of me find a budget Ramp list, does anyone have one? Thank you :D

    Milos voice change?

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 01:48 PM PDT

I noticed that milos voice has changed with the new set and he doesn't sound like he's enjoying this as much anymore :(

does anyone know why this would be, or is it related to the story going all dark?

I kind of miss how excited he was to be running moustache first into the opponents face, now he seems sad it's like the vibe is bigly changed.

    edit:

the lines are the same, but the voice is different.

    Set Symbols. The right time?

    Posted: 23 Jun 2020 07:17 PM PDT

Tl dr; I think little mini booster packs by cards in deck builder mode would be convenient and cool.

Okay, so overall I think that an easy fix (I mean I don't program so it could be alot of work to implement and retrofit.) would be to put a little mini version of the set's pack for each card by rarity in the list view of the in-game deckbuilder. It could be something people find unattractive, so perhaps an option could be put in the menu yo turn it off. I just thought it might be a nice little addition. Does anyone else believe it is worth the trouble, or are there better ways to apply set clarification for each card?

Does an Imbued unit's bonuses vary dynamically with the donor unit's attack/health?

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 12:31 PM PDT

If the donor has "Surge: get +1/+1 this turn", the imbued unit will get the same effect?

When you play Rally, the imbued unit gets +4/ as the donor unit got +2/ ?

Do “boxes” have some non-random element to the guaranteed legendaries?

    Posted: 24 Jun 2020 12:17 PM PDT

Just ripped the "box" that comes with the set pre-order. Got 2 of the same legendary, then 2 of a different legendary.

Are the 4 guaranteed legendaries per box supposed to be completely random? I don't normally buy boxes, so I'm not sure how it's supposed to work. In general, is there some element of the quasi-random card generation for opening packs that is tied for example to a mobile session, and could create a less than random selection of cards from packs ripped during that session?
