5 mistakes mono primal players are making in expedition Posted: 18 Jul 2020 12:41 PM PDT Over the last week I played a shit ton of primal decks in Expedition. It is a super strong and popular deck with many variations sometimes touching other colours. Helio carries a lot of weight, so a lot of times some bad deck/play choices end up being camouflaged by its overall power level. As a reference, this is an example of a mono primal deck with the main cards that make this colour so strong (Wisdom, TTS, Helio, Permafrost, Huntress and Linrei Stranger): https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/u_xTyhRWOXw/exp-mono-primal-midrange. Do ignore the Polymorph! Here I discuss some mistakes that I see a lot of people doing on the ladder with their (mono) primal decks. Ice Bolt Ice Bolt is one of the most important blue cards in Eternal, answering threats which this colour wouldn't traditionally be able to. However, the downside of ramping the opponent is huge and usually not worth this ability (except in aggro). The current Expedition environment is particularly punishing to Ice Bolt for a number of reasons:
I see a lot of players running it in with Master Conjurer decks, but I don't think it is enough of an incentive and I would rather play some cantripping spell. In mono primal it is certainly a huge mistake that a lot of players are making. Brokering Rain of Frogs Rain of frogs has been a staple market card since the mechanic was introduced to the game and naturally people wanted to include it for mono primal. In this format, however, the main way to access the market is Wasteland Broker, which is completely at odds with how Rain operates. Snatching an opposing Worldpyre, Helio or Channel the Tempest sounds great, so there is an appeal for Rain of Frogs. The problem is that every time you play Broker for Rain you should be asking yourself, do I want this card in something like 4 turns? By then, your opponent probably deployed whatever you were afraid of, so possibly not. Even worse, do you want to draw another Rain in 8, 12, 16 turns? Which sounds awful compared to any other high impact card you could be brokering instead. I'm pretty sure the win rate of a player after using Broker on Rain of Frogs is abysmal. Transpose Transpose is an answer to that problem, which leads into the rabbit hole of playing other 4-drop market cards. Apart from Linrei's Codex (which does need a specific board to be good) all options left are either very situational or not strong enough to warrant spending Transpose + another card to get it. At the end of the day, there is a cascade effect where to fit in Rain of Frogs (which should help you on slower matchups) you play the terrible card disadvantage market card that is Transpose and end up with a much weaker market (abdicating of Channel the Tempest and Savage Incursion, which are actually great on the slower MUs you wanted to improve). Transpose itself is such a weak card that you really want to have a very specific metagame in mind that needs its effect (such as when the Silverblade Menace was running rampant or Restrained Action mirrors with Hooru Mother). I think a lot of players fall into the trap of defaulting its use as "the primal market card of the cycle" and not seeing the huge cost of spending a whole card just to access the market. Not playing Primal Etchings It turns out that a lot of these decks don't play that many primal units and this shied away players from running Primal Etchings. It turns out that Turn to Seed and Rain of Frogs gives you primal units, so very frequently, especially in longer games where you would want to access the market with Etchings, you will have an opportunity to do so. Helio decks are extremely power hungry and you technically never want to stop making your power drops. There are several other options to help for the "extra power slots": Beseech the Throne, Eilyn's Favor and extra plunder units, but I would always play a number of Etchings as the ability to access the market and play the card on the same turn is very often game winning. If you are designing a deck with multiple ways to access the market you should try to imagine the scenarios in which you would use each card and what you would get with them. I probably don't want to Wasteland Broker for a Swift Refusal or a Linrei's Codex, but when using Etchings I have a creature in play so these cards are way more appealing. Trying to be aggro Lately there was a spike on more aggressive mono primal builds (frequently designed around Frostbite Elemental). I'm sure these decks are quite strong as they play most of the strong core of primal cards right now in Expedition and the mono coloured incentives, the problem is that it just ends up being a weaker version of the same deck. It is said in Magic that you either want to be much faster than your opponent or a little bit slower, so more midrangey primal decks end up being a bit slower than aggressive one. Since all units line up quite similarly, the defending player also ends up having an advantage and Turn to Seeds provide chump blockers when used offensively. I haven't seen any trump cards from more aggressive slanted primal decks that can swing games, so the tendency is that the side with more card draw and access to Channel the Tempest ends up winning. Solitair in throne? (unitless draw combo) Posted: 18 Jul 2020 09:28 AM PDT This is a unitless deck without any controll cards. Only point is gaining power, drawing and then chaining sols rest while hitting your opponent with midias. You can easily play 50 cards in a single turn chaining 4 turns in a row. So this is not for boomer apms. This is also not competitive as it dies to aggro. And this is also very very unintertactive. If you want to make your opponent wait for 3 min while deciding wether you are going to kill them after all that drawing then this is the deck for you (and then you are degenerate like me). p.s. Im sorry if this takes off. Its not a very good deck though, so it shouldnt be too bad. https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/jn5ydMYSMkM/re-read-build-unitless-combo-otk [link] [comments]
The Eternal Card Art Tournament - Round #15 and #16 Posted: 18 Jul 2020 10:14 AM PDT ————— ————— Congratulations to those who voted for Whirling Duo and Harsh Rule in the last polls! Those two will be advancing in the tournament. [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jul 2020 11:33 AM PDT The slow pace of the game is starting to kill me. It seems like a lot of the decks right now are all about racing to build the killer combo, and, especially with Eternal's eternally long animations, some games seem to just drag on forever. I'm looking at you, Severin decks, and blue decks that draw cards all week long. It's kind of cool the first turn it happens, watching someone pull off a crazy combo. And it's great the second turn, when they do it again, because I have time to make a sandwich and watch the lord of the rings movies. But the third turn, sitting and watching all of those Piercing Griefs cycle through revenge, while Netflix is like, "Sorry, you watched everything already during that last game against the Garden of Omens deck", I start to nod off, and then I have to take a nap while pretending to be thinking really hard about which card to pick from my market. So anyway, Eternal, please speed up the animations, or better yet, make a setting to turn them off. The fact that I can't beat these interminably slow combo decks, I get it, that's on me. Eternal, wow, where have you been Posted: 17 Jul 2020 03:32 PM PDT Just started playing this on Xbox. Wow. How fast and tight. Most importantly for an ageing gamer, large text I can read without binoculars! Even on a 65 inch TV some games have unreadable text. I do hope this game is successful and doesn't disappear as it has clearly had a ton of love poured into it. Just happy to have an Xbox card game that I like. I'll get my coat. 👍🏻 [link] [comments]
Why the lastest pack doesn't give us the full Cylix power cards? Posted: 18 Jul 2020 07:09 AM PDT Any particular reasons? I feel like I gotta forced to play the factions that have cylix only Edit: in title I mean "lastest set", sorry [link] [comments]
[Bug?] Can't play site's unit when the board is full Posted: 18 Jul 2020 08:14 AM PDT Ok I'm not sure if it's a new change or bug but apparently you can't play site's unit when your board is full. Before new update, i remember you can play site's unit even when the board is full by sacrificing other unit so i don't know if it's a bug or a new mechanic change that I'm not aware. Newbie looks for F2P / Occasional Cash - Casual Posted: 18 Jul 2020 12:05 AM PDT Hi there. I used to play hearthstone and magic but I got sick of spending so much money to be competitive and now play mostly casually where i can get rewards and occasional purchases to play. Been playing Gwent and Ruinterra a good deal and I enjoy them but Eternal seems cool. Anyway whats the best way to use/spend/get resources and such. On the surface from looking at the shop and options and prices of campaigns and gems the game seems expensive. Let me know how wrong I am ;) [link] [comments]

Being Able to Favorite Cards In the Collection Posted: 17 Jul 2020 02:56 PM PDT Something that i've seen in a few other card games that i really like is being able to "favorite" or "star" cards. Then you can search for it using the advanced search like you would for searching for "legendary" or "units". I fell like this would be fairly easy to implement and would help you to filter for your most played or most liked cards; and not see a bunch of draft only cards when building decks One of my favorite things about eternal is deckbuilding, but i often forget about cards when building because your collection can get so vast. I think this option would really help. [link] [comments]
