    Curtain Call Decks

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 02:19 PM PDT

So I've heard a lot of talk about curtain call being busted, but I don't think seen it once outside of draft. Is it being played more in Throne? I usually just play Exp.

If anyone has any lists they don't mind sharing, I'd really appreciate taking a look and trying some Xenan decks out.

The 3 decks that got me to masters in throne

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 03:50 PM PDT

Hello everyone, I decided to post the 3 lists that I used to climb to masters this chapter and give a bit of an insight as to why I chose them.

I played this from gold 3 to gold 1: https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/WGXdfNqF5WY/count-to-12-feln

It's definitely the worst of the 3 lists, but I enjoy this playstyle a lot as it reminds me of the fun Party Hour days.

This is what I used to get from gold 2 to diamond 2: https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/XNUTD14xLMs/mono-shadow-xenan

It did a good job of fighting the increase of Hooru Ruffian decks as they have trouble fighting through deadly blockers and the plentiful top-end managed to do well against control too, there was rather little aggro around to punish my greedy curve.

This is what I used from diamond 2 to masters: https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/MUqk-smiaX8/stonescar-aggro-rank-4

I faced a lot of greedy decks, so I decided to punish them by playing pretty standard 1 drop aggro. I prefer a removal light approach as it reduces the number of dead draws against control decks and I found that proper sequencing of your threats makes removal less necessary.

I hope some of this might help you with your climb and if you have any questions about my deck or card choices feel free to ask me in the comments here or to ask me on the official discord.

    Missing cards

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 06:04 AM PDT

    Hey guys!

So I just logged in and went to play some gauntlet, (finalised the one I just lost and went to boot up another) and noticed that my usually decks (mainly shadows) all were invalid, I checked the deck out and it was missing my set of two of the power cards (the nightfall and decimate shadow ones) I know 100% I didn't dust them as I'm lazy, and never modify decks, or dust cards unless I have 4x (and I haven't checked recently)

I've rebooted the game and they are still missing. Any ideas? And will it be possible to get them back?

    July Sealed League help

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 04:52 AM PDT

So with the first packs being exclusively Argent Depths, this Sealed League poses, IMO, a really tough challenge. Unlike seasoned brewers, I really struggle looking for synergies/seeing what are the stars of this new set.

    My pool is here: https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/rPVnZIxwhVU/july-sealed-pool

I don't have any cards that jump out to me as 10/10 bombs.

First I tried a Xenan build, https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/XEvquJMsfjg/july-sealed-league-week-1-xenan. The idea was to rely on the top end that Time has. But I never really made it to the top end (maybe because no lifesteal?).

I also tried a more aggressive Skycrag build, https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/WLIrn3QpBAg/july-sealed-league-week-1-skycrag, with my curve capping out at 5. But I never thought it really hit very hard.

    I didn't win a game with either :/

So I'd love to hear y'alls thoughts about the right colors for this pool, and what you're finding success with in Argent Depths. And hopefully /u/Calebovitsch will get his draft guide up soon :)

Anyway to fix this? Can't play Forge

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 01:33 PM PDT

    Congratulations and one sugestion.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 10:54 AM PDT

    TL;DR: Read the bold text.
So, I've kinda left eternal long ago, used it mostly to spectate before sleeping cuz I was disgusted with the sets, the pushed colors forcing the meta, imo the game was taking a bad direction.

This set came to fix everything, screw and flood problems, now I'm more than happy to come back and congratulate the team on what they are doing, the only change I would do to plunder (aside from having it in every card Kappa, no, but seriously, make it a core mechanic :D) its swaping the power/card with one in your deck I think that mechanic would be superior since you can avoid transforming your 12 cost card wincondition wich you have 1 copy of and you sadly got it in your initial hand or once again flooding.

Seriously, this mechanic is just great, I kneel before you design team, fixing the ever-existing ever-frustrating problem in games with power.
That and the powercreep to every color enables once again the positibilty to play almost anything you want.
Yeah, there are 2 mega overpowered cards but I guess they will be nerfed before or after (sad) the ECQ so the game will be fun anyway.
Plunder gives DECISION MAKING YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY no pristine light-like cards.

I dream with a world where every card has plunder.

    What Is She Saying...?!?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 12:43 PM PDT

Am I the only one who cannot figure out what Icaria, First Reaper says when she attacks?!? It sounds like "Bend and Tear" but it also sounds like "Blended hair". 🤣 It's not a big deal, I was just wondering if anyone knew or was wondering the same thing. Thanks.

First card to be nerfed? Give us your best guess.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 01:56 AM PDT

Which card do you think is most problematic at the moment and which card do you think DWD will nerf first?

Problem: Shadow in general feels overpowered. Like Justice of old.

    Will be nerfed: Prize Sow.

Sealed League - So much decay

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 01:48 AM PDT

I must say I really like it, really throws a spanner in you attempt to plan your attacks/defense. Also makes Relic weapons quite useful.

Just a question, not sure if I missed it somehow, Does Decay affect Relic weapons as well? Can swear it happened to me, but perhaps it was something else?

When is Sealed meant to be ‘fun’?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 07:21 AM PDT

Sorry for the sour tone of this post, but since the new League is out and I have enough gold to enter it, I'm reminded of the last few times I tried (and failed) to enjoy the format.

So, to put the obvious aside: yes, the return you get from it is basically the best in the game currently, so for building a collection (which I still have a long way to go) it's a no-brainer. Even if I'm 'just' losing games, I'm still getting not only value from the initial pack openings, but later also the rewards from the end of the event.

However, what I'm having difficulty with is figuring out how I'm supposed to actually enjoy playing the format. I generally don't play limited formats in the first place, but — for me — Sealed can be particularly feels-bad for a number of reasons.

First, it is incredibly unintuitive to figure out what works in Sealed, it being a limited format, unless you are already experienced with limited formats in the first place. You're basically making an inferior draft deck, no surprises there. But as something that's seemingly intended to give players with a weaker collection a leg-up (due to the value of the event), there really is no way that those players (myself included, I admit) to intuitively understand what works best.

You get a bunch of cards with mixed factions, some rares/legendaries that seem good, and...no real help. In fact, you have to go to places like Reddit or Discord to ask what to make of your pool because basically none of it really makes sense. And I have a feeling not many people actually enjoy that process unless they're doing it to learn (and props to them for that, but I imagine even they would feel better about having less hoops to jump through). I know that lots of people enjoy the challenge of trying to cobble together a deck with little direction, but unless you're that kind of person I don't know how you're supposed to enjoy this process.

Second, you might just get straight trash! Through no fault of your own, you might just get awful cards. You can try to make something out of these, but you're going to lose a ton unless you're a super-savvy limited player. Moreover, you spent a substantial amount of gold to enter an event where you may as well not try to play any games (I say 'try' because you can still get standing for conceding games, but if you're just conceding, then you're not really playing, are you?). If you're just conceding, then you could have spent that time playing a mode that you actually do enjoy, but you have to waste time entering a bunch of matches only to give someone the win.

And yeah, there's always the option of not playing until the last couple of weeks when you get more cards, but that also means you again have more cruft to sort through than before to try and figure out if you did get anything reasonable. And really, there's every possibility that you actually don't get anything useful even after 4 weeks.

Thirdly, the cards you get from the weekly packs might not be very useful to you in the short term, if you mainly got poor commons, uncommons and rares. Heck, some legendaries you get in sealed are not only awful for sealed, but also bad or extremely difficult to use in constructed formats! Now obviously this isn't so different from just opening regular packs and not getting anything good from them, but at least in those instances it's not all happening at once with the intent that you're supposed to use them immediately, and you're also choosing which sets you want to get packs for.

This has been one big rant, I understand, so I'm not going to be surprised if the responses are dismissive, and I don't blame them. But I do wonder how many other players feel this way about the sealed leagues.

It honestly feels really awful to spend a chunk of gold for, quite frankly, fantastic value, only to have it feel like it was a waste. It's made worse by the fact that it does seem to be intended for people to build collections, and I'm grateful for DWD making such concessions. But I genuinely don't get how it is supposed to be enjoyable as it is.
