Eternal Card Game Can we change Cen Wastes Smuggler to do... anything else?

Can we change Cen Wastes Smuggler to do... anything else?

Now, I quite like Shift as a mechanic but nothing fun Shift usually does applies to Cen Wastes Smugler.

What are the fun things shift can do?

    • Play a unit cheaper but with a delay. Doesn't apply since shift is same as regular cost.

    • Keep a unit safe from targeting for a while. Not relevant since it doesn't have any effect after the summon.

    • Have an additional or different effect when shifted. Not the case here.

    • Sneak some damage in on a stale board. Now, this is the only thing this Smuggler can really use it's shift for but it's attack isn't that high, 3 damage in 3 turns is very weak. Also, you're accessing the market on play, you'd think you would pull something that can help you break the stale if that's what you need.

    • Make a shift deck. Now, maybe it's a good use for the card, I won't argue for or against it. However, Merchants are a big staple of Eternal and should, in my opinion, be evergreen card that can be played for the whole game's lifetime. Locking one of them into a 3 sets old mechanic that wasn't printed on a single card since then makes it feel like a very irrelevant card. You'd only pick it if you want that specific market access, unlike all other merchants that have decent keywords or build around effects.

    How could this be improved?

You could reduce the shift to 2 (but massively nerf the stats to balance the 2 cost market access).

You could give the card an ongoing effect or an effect while shifted. (And adjust the stats to balance it out.)

You could just remove Shift and give it something else.

    Ubsat - The Upsetter

    Posted: 11 Jul 2020 03:34 AM PDT

I think everyone already knows how warping this card currently is for unit heavy decks, so long story short:

I propose changing it imo to one of these options:

    1. Make the ability an Ultimate: Pay 4.
    2. Make the card 5-cost with a 4/4 body.
    3. Make it a 6-cost if nothing else changes.
    4. Make the silence only hit 1 unit of your choice. (Still way better than Steward of Prophecy)

Don't forget it's static health gain ability is still relevant and strong for life gain synergies.

Then happy days for everyone, thank you.

    EDIT/further reasoning:

Before you downvote this please at least see some of my thoughts. The main reason why Ubsat is deserving of a nerf is because it's silence effect is game changing vs all heavy unit based decks (especially vs Aggro going 2nd), while also being slapped on an already overstatted unit as a 4-drop. Compare him to Steward of Prophecy and it's like heaven and earth since Influence is a joke now. The upgrade is so big that we don't see the influence requirement being a downside at all.

I just think the design is very lazy and something that should not be encouraged. I mean what's next after this, Royal Decree effect slapped on a 3-drop 4/4 body on summon? Hope you get my drift. Yes, silence doesn't destroy the whole unit but its not much different when Ubsat will most likely be bigger than your units with the same cost, whilst you are also wasting power to play said vanilla duds to stay alive and losing tempo further and further.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant but I really wish that DWD will cease printing super efficient cards that disrupts whole hands or playsets. This not only hurts the fun aspect of unique cards but also totally destroys combo decks. Silence is an anti-fun mechanic which should be carefully balanced and I'm sure many will agree with me especially when facing the old Rectifier etc.

We should be encouraging more diverse decks with cool synergies that might play less-efficient cards in order to create something that you will shout: "Wow! So that's why you played that 2/2 for 3, what a brilliant idea! GG man even though I lost!" Rather than games where you think: "Well, you are just playing the most efficient all-round-good units like everyone else, let's see who's luck is better drawing the same cards....." Unfortunately, I think the game is slowly becoming the latter with more and more pushed units that can fill multiple roles on a single card such as Jekk. Silence effects can lead to the same bad ending in that it creates more negative emotions than positive, discouraging clever tactics and inclusion of less-efficient-but-synergistic units. I really hope that this awesome game will not become a luck-fest like Hearthstone, and the first step in doing that will be introducing more new synergies rather than new fun-police cards that wreck havoc on creativity.

    Thank you for reading :)

A paid promotion maybe DWD should think about?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2020 03:44 PM PDT

I was thinking it might be nice if you paid actual money for a one or two week span where every chest that gets randomly upgraded actually upgrades two spots instead of one.

For example a bronze chest on the times when it would get upgraded to a silver chest would instead be upgraded to a gold chest and if you had a silver chest that would randomly be upgraded to a gold chest it would be upgraded to a diamond chest instead.

Maybe for 10 dollars to get two weeks of this upgrade "buff" It wouldn't increase the chance that an upgrade would happen just that when they do it's a better upgrade.

I'm just tossing this idea out I thought about today.
