Posted: 15 Dec 2020 07:00 AM PST It's been awhile since we've added new user flairs to the sub (Defiance?), so our images folks want feedback on which cards we should choose. Use the Google form below to vote for your favorite new card or your current favorite card that's already a flair. Each user can vote for up to three cards. Please note, we're limited in how many flairs we can have, so if you have a favorite already please vote for it. Flairs that don't get enough votes may be cut from the existing lineup while we add new favorites. [link] [comments]
[EOG First Build] Expedition Scream Posted: 15 Dec 2020 08:48 AM PST Toying around with Haunting Scream in the expedition format. Includes Scream-like effects, such as Doctor Zytrom and a market Krull, Xumuc Occultist. The Queen of Glass ensures that the effects of Scream and the Doctor don't end when your turn does. Mwahahaha. The Importance of Options and Why I'm Excited for Empire of Glass Posted: 14 Dec 2020 04:16 PM PST One of the cool things about a new expansion is looking at the new cards, figuring out what you want to play, and then trying to build a deck with it. This builds excitement for the new expansion, given that players have reasons to be excited for said expansion. I wasn't particularly excited for Argent Depths because nothing really stood out to me until after I saw what people were building with Severin. By contrast, I couldn't really excited for Bastion Rising because even though there were cards I was excited for like Sling and Okessa I couldn't play with them because they required a larger budget than I currently have. Don't get me wrong, I thought both sets were well designed and had tons of fun with Severin before his nerf, but for me they were missing that pre expansion excitement. But Empire of Glass? This is the most excited I've been for a new set in a long time, mostly thanks to Pyrotech Explosion and Fair Exchange, but the entire set seems to provide tons of options which I'm excited for too. Most pushed cards need support while most unpushed cards have constructed utility, and when you put both of those design ideas together you get a lot more options and a much better set. I keep mentioning options a lot, and a lot of people seem to ask about what I mean by "options". In the context of gameplay, an option is a tool that a player has access to (like a card in Eternal) that provides some way to enable a gameplan (like card draw or win conditions) or disrupt an opponent's gameplan (like removal or tech cards). I'm simplifying a bit, but it gives a good baseline for the argument I'm trying to explain here. Eternal has a very small pool of options relative to its comparatively large card pool (at least for its age), and it would be a much better card game and reach a much larger audience with a larger pool of options. The TL;DR is that options make the game more fun, but here's a more in-depth read for people who want it. It's more related to game design than play, but I promise it's still an interesting read. Options add Depth Depth amounts to the decisions that players have to make within a game. The more decisions the players have to make, the deeper the game is. The beauty of Eternal (and by extension card games not made by me) is that they are very deep but also very simple, so many people can pick it up but still have fun for hundreds of hours. Options directly contributes to depth: the more options you have, the deeper the game is. More options means more synergies to find and more cards you have to find counters for, which means there's a greater variety of cards and decklists and therefore more fun gameplay for everyone. Options promote Skill Expression Skill expression in card games comes in the form of building and piloting skill. Some players put tuning and mulligans in as skills too, but for simplicity let's group them with deck building and piloting, respectively. More options means there's a larger pool of cards to build with and more cards you need to play around, both of which promote different skills. With building, you have a lot more cards to build a deck with. On one hand, you have a lot of different cards with which to create different strategies both across and within different archetypes. On the other hand, you have a wider variety of options, each of which might need different answers that you don't have room for. Deckbuilding is hard, and it becomes much harder when you have a wide enough variety of options you need to deal with when there's no free lunch, but it's much more rewarding when you have built a good deck. With piloting, you have to account for a larger pool of options. Being able to extrapolate from incomplete data is a valuable piloting skill, and it becomes much harder to do with more options but much more rewarding when you do it well. Even if you don't play around a particular option, being able to deal with an option you weren't expecting is still a skill, only now it promotes adaptability instead of prediction and extrapolation. Options promote Player Expression In most F2P games, player expression predominantly boils down to skins, whether it's player skins, weapon skins, deck skins, playmats, player colors, art on basic lands, etc. However, there's another aspect of it that boils down to a player's playstyle and card choices. Are you a dog person? Do you like fire aggro? If you answered yes to both of those questions, then you've probably wanted to play good boys like Forge Wolf and Blinkwolf in your decks but couldn't. Why? They aren't good options. If they were good options that you'd actively want to play with then you'd be able to play them in your fire aggro deck, and be able to express your love of dogs with your card choices, and this is just one of many examples. A lot of players seem to think that having a lot of arbitrarily similarly powerful options isn't good for the game, but there's an aspect of player expression that's sorely lacking because the options available are such a variable power level. Two options being arbitrarily at around the same strength might not matter to you, but it will matter to someone, and that's what matters. Different Options cater to Different Players Making an expansion is hard. You need to make sure that you have a large pool of cards built for a lot of different players of different psychographics, different factions, different budgets, different styles of deck, and different formats, all while creating new mechanics and experiences to keep the game fresh and while making the game look like some attempt was made at balance knowing that a balanced game is both impossible and undesirable. DWD does a good job of catering to most players, and not everything needs to be supported every set(ie you aggro control players), but there are many players that don't get the support they should get in an expansion. Johnnies don't always get the options that let them to express their creativity. Low-budget players (especially new players) don't get to play the game when there's a severe enough imbalance between high-rarity and low-rarity cards. Combo players don't always get new win conditions to play around with, which could be fine if cards balanced to not be combo pieces like Yeti Taunt Patrol didn't exist. Empire of Glass excites me greatly because none of these problems are present, and with the right publicity the game could gain a lot of new players and keep its old players for much longer. Posted: 15 Dec 2020 09:37 AM PST Seems DwD forgot to make xbox achievements again. On top of Ascending Hero still being bugged and un-earnable It is getting very frustrating, I basically can't play the new set as it will lock me out of achievements [link] [comments]

Skycrag Grenadin List to grind new expedition format Posted: 14 Dec 2020 09:47 PM PST Thanks Eternalwarcry for updating the site so quickly! https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/q4Nv8O2Asnc/skycrag-grenadin-empire-of-glass-expedition-legal Here is a grenadin list that is fairly cheap to make from cards in the new set. Playing this earned me very quick wins. Hope this helps out anyone who is unsure of what to play from new cards. [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Dec 2020 06:23 AM PST So while I was playing a really tight back and forth game, I managed to eke out a lethal on my turn. However the opponent just kept spamming emotes and waited till his timer ticked out. While I think its a great idea that a timer is in place to prevent BM like slow playing, is there anyway to report these kinds of players? P.S: I am well aware of the downsides of including a "report player" function in game, just looking to see if there is an alternative! Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
