Discussion: Dinosaur Nest and Furious Magniventris

    Posted: 13 Feb 2022 05:23 AM PST

To say that these two cards are pretty much dominating Expedition is an underestimation, on Eternal Warcry they easily jumped into the top of the most played cards, with Combrei now being the go-to.

I understand that they can be answered, but to do so it's incredibly narrow and at the end of the day makes running such cards the best possible solution, limiting deck building.

Starting with Dinosaur Nest, most of the answers are in Time, which means the best course is to play a Dinosaur Nest yourself together with answers to your opponent's Dinosaur Nest. And of these answers, only a few of them are actually viable (biggest offender is Waystone Ignitor, which you need multiple copies of him and is a legendary). Other viable answers are in Justice and Fire, but there is a catch in this: yes, Fire's Bullseye and Oni Inciter are somewhat viable, but they belong mostly to Aggro based decks.

The problem I see is that outside of playing yourself Dinosaur Nest decks, the other viable solution to counter them is to play Fire, but in that case you get wrecked by Furious Magniventris. The funny thing is that they made it to just barely avoid most common removal so that if you want to really erase it you need to expend way more resources than your opponent. Wanna stun him? Sorry, it has Endurance. Call the Hit? Sorry, it has 3 Strength and while that could make it a target for Sinister Rumors, with Endurance the times you can use it are essentially halved. Searing Fist? Sorry, he's better than Elena on surviving that, icing on the cake is that while Fevered Dispute could kill it, he's a dinosaur so no. And to add it on top of it all, even if it gets killed it will still benefit the player, as an enemy unit is stunned and you gain Armor. Given also its interations with Armor and just how good Stormhal Plating is, it's essentially the best anti-aggro card.

Said this, the fact that the better choices for countering Dinosaur Nest are in Fire Aggro, this brings to a double problem. The first one is that by going Combrei you gain both the benefit of Dinosaur Nest and Furious Magniventris while being able to manage the one thing that can give you trouble. The second one is that if you really want to go Fire Aggro, at this point add a Furious Magniventris in your deck and you're golden, since that unit will always be a threat with added value.

And that's what Expedition has now turned to: Combrei decks revolving essentially around 2 cards which limits most of the deck building since the best answers are in the same faction that houses said 2 cards. The ONLY variance one can now see is to play either Time or Justice with Primal (if you want Plunk) or Shadow (if you want Zido). And all this without counting the other cards that simply add to your existing values. Simply put, deckbuilding is now around deciding to play either Dinosaur Nest, Furious Magniventris or both and how many answers to them you want in your deck.

It can also be however that I'm simply wrong, so that's why I'm making this thread: what's your opinion on such cards? Are they limiting the formats or is simply the "new kid on the block" and the meta still has to stabilize?

    Discuss.

I'm seeing folks on the ladder with an Inferno Phoenix avatar. Does anyone know how that is obtained? Inferno Phoenix seems to be the header art for the 2021 World Championship, but other than that I can't seem to find any info on the avatar.

    Rank 1 Exp/Throne Guide

Hi all, with worlds decklist submissions closed and my team members decks registered I thought I would take the time to make a clickbait post on EWC share the decks I used to reach rank 1 in both formats. :) I have included a short guide/deck tech in each of them, so I hope you find them useful. Enjoy!

Games similar to eternal card game drafting?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2022 01:04 AM PST

I want to draft more but don't have the gold. Any other games with similar game modes?

edit: I don't need to keep the cards either. So phantom drafting is fine too.

Combrei Dinos (Expedition Rank 7) - Dinosaur Nest is Busted

    Posted: 11 Feb 2022 12:12 PM PST

After many attempt to try and solve the Expedition format, I just decided to put the best cards in the same deck. Ultimately, the deck revolves around Dinosaur Nest and Scalesworn Patrol along with a bunch of other good cards like Lunar Claw, Predatory Carnosaur, Furious Magniventris, and Javan.

Deck is a good midrange deck that can win games fast or play the long game. I think it hits a good spot for this format.

Argenport seems like the toughest matchup (maybe 50/50 or a bit in your favor) but everything else feels like a cakewalk as your cards are just broken and other decks are playing less powerful or more narrow cards.

I go through some of my individual card thinking and a bit of how it play the deck over at Eternal Warcry.

    Hope this helps others!

    I love Furious Magniventris.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2022 03:20 AM PST

I just built a Combrei deck (basically Mail's Eggs, with a couple changes), and added Magniventris, and holy crap, this card is fun! I actually didn't realize how OP it was until I first played it, and was like "holy crap, why is he doing 9 damage??".

Anyway, just wanted to give a shout-out to one of my favorite new cards!
