Farming Eternal Ep52: Jed and the Peculiar Case of the Community Draft Survey

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 12:58 PM PDT

Welcome to Ep.52.of the Farming Eternal Podcast. This week Patrick and Hatsonlamps have another special guest, our very own discord mod and patron, JedtheHomarid. Jed created the community draft rating survey and, in this episode, they break it down. They talk about why Jed thinks card ratings are important and how best to use them to improve your game. They also discuss how to understand his summary spreadsheet and talk about the cards that people agreed upon and disagreed upon.

If this is your first-time hearing about the podcast, you can send your 7-win deck lists by email to farmingeternal@gmail.com or post them in the discord. (link to join the discord is below). Thank you to all the players for submitting your decks this past week.

Hosting an open to all Charity Tournament details inside!

    Child's Play Charity Tournament

    TLDR

    Who: Jedi_EJ and YOU

What: Common/Uncommon Constructed, 5 Round Swiss, Single Elim Top 8, Best of 3, no play/draw rule

    When: 28 March 2020, 1200 CST

Why: To raise a donation for Child's Play (Providing entertainment to kids in medical facilities)

    Where: http://www.twitch.tv/jedi_ej

Greetings Knights, Padawans, and all the great people of the Eternal Community. I think we have a fantastic group of people here and would like to do a couple of things that generate a lot of synergy and high value. I wanted to create an event that can bring us together regardless of play skill, collection size, global location, and allow us to be creative (deck building), test our play skill, do some additional good in the world and have fun while doing it. So this is an attempt at creating something bigger than ourselves (or just me at least). Ok enough about the setup, on to the nuts and bolts.

28 March 2020 at 1200 CST (so this coming Saturday) I and the rest of the Jedi Order will be hosting an Eternal tournament for charity. The tournament is FREE to join located in the links within this post and will consist of a COMMON/UNCOMMON ONLY (PEASANT) format. This allows any player that wants to participate to join regardless of collection, use of normal shiftstone fodder build arounds, appeal to limited players, and create another challenge for those creative brewers. All cards in Eternal are legal including campaigns and all sets. Tournament will consist of five (5) rounds of swiss with a cut to a single elimination Top 8. All rounds will be best of 3 with no play / draw rule.

Prize support will be a 50USD Steam gift card to first place, 20USD Steam gift card to second place, and sadly that's it since I'm hoping the majority of the funds will go into donations for the charity. (I'll explain in a moment) Additionally I like how tight knit the Eternal community is and would like to somewhat continue this with a little inner community competition between the various Eternal Teams that have been created. So if a minimum of five (5) teams participate with a minimum (but not limited to) three (3) players each, I will include an additional 20USD Steam gift card to the team with the best score! Teams consist of any of the known entities with a title and have been represented in previous Eternal Tournaments such as [Misplay] [TNT] [Barbarian Camp] and the many others. Scoring for the team event will simply be adding the rank of the top three (3) finishes for the team together and the lowest total wins. Example… 2nd, 7th, 11th place finishes equal a score of 20 for that specific team. Let me know if you like this idea or not please.

Child's Play is the organization we will first be fundraising / donating to. They focus on supplying video game consoles and age appropriate video games for groups of children that are in hospitalized care for an extended period of time to help distract them from such tough times. Anyone can donate as soon as this post is live and can continue to do so until the end of the tournament this Saturday. The link is a third party that is designed for fundraiser campaigns and is independent from my own content, so feel free to click the link below if you decide you'd like to contribute. Thank you in advance for donating and/or for reading this far.

Broadcast of the tournament will be on my Twitch channel (www.twitch.tv/jedi_ej) and at the moment I won't be on a delay and will not have either hands displayed for players. Unless things change, I feel this is the best way to avoid technical issues with the stream and ensure a great viewing experience for the community and be the most fair to the competitors to avoid sniping. I do encourage anyone that is curious or interested in seeing some great and new players innovate deck design as well as show off piloting prowess to tune in and cheer on your favorites!

Wondering if DWD has ever talked about implementing duplicate protection for packs bought from the store? The game is already very free to play friendly but just curious

    Discard Deck Counters?

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 12:37 PM PDT

I've been doing up against two deck types that have been frustrating to play against. One operates on the whole discard mechanic, and the other is more of a mill style, so more of a steal and discard type of mechanic, but from combat more than spell heavy discard. Either way, I do not have the comprehensive game theory knowledge to counter this deck style and don't know what to use, and I wonder if people out there are experiencing a similar trend seeing more of these decks than usual.

I can't really think of any good counters except to just switch deck types completely and go with aggro/face type decks. Using what I do now, which tend to be controlly decks, some with a combo-y engine for a win condition, the discard mechanic just makes them unplayable, and I can't even think of a good counter. As it stands, it seems like unless you load up with enough curse/relic breakers and silences, you're at the mercy of this deck type, and even then, the bodies are decent enough to punish you while you are simply trying to counter their plays.

Not really complaining that this deck type exists, even though it doesn't appeal to me and seems to be sort of a 'watch me play while you die' sort of deck. I just would like some insight into what viable decks to play when it seems like I'm running into it every other game that arent pure hate decks and could stand a chance against other decks.

    Thoughts?

The continuous looping "locking horns" animation on the Gauntlet screen is both very distracting and drains phone battery very fast.

    Posted: 23 Mar 2020 12:18 PM PDT

I like playing Gauntlet to relax. It is both less stressful and I can play one move when I have time, every 5 minutes or 15-30. It is great that I dont have to play one full game at a time, I can walk away then resume whenever.

But the continuous looping animation extremely busy and stress inducing. Most distracting idle screen in the game.

Can we get a option to disable idle screen animations in general to preserve phone battery?
