    Taking a break, some thoughts

    Posted: 03 May 2021 09:27 AM PDT

    Hey, moderate rant time!

First off, I do very much enjoy eternal, started magic when I was younger, played it a lot at uni, fair few years of HS (shudder) and been playing Eternal since around November.

I knows there plenty of mades to play, but I enjoy throne most, I'm a bit of Timmy in general and I like trying the jank. I do having a go with some of the toptier net decks (scum, I know) but tend to tire of them quite fast. By design I suppose the ladder (in all the CCGs I've played) are not Timmy friendly. So theres that, the cards are stacked against us Tims from the off.

I think my main issue and frustration is that control decks are in large (that are encountered on ladder) not very interactive in eternal, things like garden control where its just constant boardwipes and card draw till you get your shank, anything with shadow playing constant streams of kill spells etc etc. I feel like a lot of peeps on here complain about aggro not been interactive, but I find a lot control decks just as bad, probs worse in the long run. Many decks feel like fun denial, they are not fun to play against (admittedly beating such a deck is great coming from behind but that dont happen often) and for me they are not fun to play.

I'll probs be back when the next set drops but kinda tired of playing the game, or maybe its more online CCGs in general. I remember when I first started playing back in November it felt like the majority of the games felt like every move mattered, and the better plays were rewarded with the win, which was very refreshing coming from the RNG clown fiesta HS had become, but for awhile now I dont feel like I get those kind of games nearly as often Eternal. I dont know if this is a recent thing other people may have noticed or if its just me. Maybe casual will be where I lurk, more draft etc.

TL:DR Control mechanics are boring in eternal and ladder bad for Timmys, online CCG's getting stale but probably because I've played them so much.

As a bit of an aside I dont get why many CCGs seem to shy away from counter spells, feel like some more would be nice in eternal, dazzle is the only one ive ever seen played. I know some people find them unfun, but its an added layer of strategy and counters the seemingly never ending waves of boadwipes, kill spells, exploits etc

Gauntletics® Certified 95% Win Rate (Stonescar)

    Posted: 03 May 2021 11:32 AM PDT

Tired of having your face bashed by shamefully unfair Gauntlet bosses?
Frustrated importing decks that are all bark and no bit[coin]?
Grinding your teeth (and never gold) in a seemingly futile pursuit of 3 silver/gold/platinums?!?!

Well Gnash, Unrelenting your teeth no more, for Gauntletics® is here!!! Gauntletics® not only crushes the AI, but will accurately rate any gauntlet deck win rate.

So for the first time in Eternal history, here is my deck's Gauntletics® certified win rate:
    - 95% Overall (190 wins / 200 games)
    - 96% Non-Boss Win Rate (169/176)
    - 88% Bossicide Rate (21/24)
    - 68% Perfect Runs (21/31)
(*Note a minimum dataset of 200 games (n=200) is required for a certified Gauntletics® rating.)

This deck is the culmination of playing 1000+ games in Gauntlet, with many tweaks, and now has great results with an overall Gauntletics® rating of 95%. Kudos to the brilliant Swatches for his excellent The Actual Boss of Gauntlet (and accompanying write up) which originally inspired this Stonescar deck.

Secondly, I know there will be constant changes and new decks, and so I invite anyone to use patented Gauntletics® technology to optimize their own deck and claim the Gauntletics® deck crown by posting a deck with higher than 95% win rate! See patented Gauntletics® technology for all the details.

Click here for the full article, and to import the actual deck that was the result of 1,000+ games of statistically-analysed Gauntlet games.

[OpenReport] How a Noob made it to top 32 Day1

    Posted: 03 May 2021 01:07 PM PDT

This Open was my second Open, the first one being the Expedition one two weeks before. First open was a good experience and I think an exact 50% winrate (15-13) with a homebrew Xenan Ultimate deck was a honorable score.

I couldn't practice much for the draft Open because of the gold. Collecting the 70k for both events was allready very annoying so I didn't play a single draft that month. Therefore I based my strategy on the experience I had from the few drafts I made during previous months. My best scores were always involving Time so the plan was to force Time and pick another color according to what I open. In Time the most important common (note I will only talk about the common cards) to pick is Coretap Maximiser. And to go with it you need some Amber Locks or even better some Okessa's Audience. If I go Fire/Time, the sentinel synergy is exploited and I will be looking for cards like Flameheart Patroler, Barricade Basher, Laser Blast or Scourstone Sentinel. Justice/Time have in common both Sentinel and Soldier tribes. Good J common cards are: Sidestreet Monitor, Finest Hour, Shock Troops, Bastion Gatekeeper and the awesome Gravity Gloves, especialy paired with Restorative Process. With 5 power you have a 3/3 glove, you kill something, get back the glove with a Sentinel and play it again as a 5/5 weapon for 5. Even better if you were lucky to open a Copper Conduit as his buffs stack too. Still with 5 power it is 10/10 the second time it is played. From my experience TP and TS were meh but TPS was very good. TP is about Soldiers, TS about Mandrakes but TPS is more about relics with Consumer Greed.

For the first draft, the rare opened in the first pack was Crystallize. This card is a bomb in draft so I went for Primal with my Time. No good Shadow cards were offered and in the end the deck was Primal heavy, I chose to go aggro/flyers way with 2 Exotic Purchases and an Abyssal Scrying in the market for the draw. I lost a game because I got stuck at 2 power and another against someone who played a soldier every turn with Argo Ironthorn on turn 5 or 6, nothing I could do. I went 3-2 (so 5-2 with the 2 master wins) and was jaleous of someone opening such a good Legendary card as Argo.

God must have heard my prayers caus during next draft I opened an Argo too and, WTF??, a Lord Steyer's Tower 8th pick. So a Time Justice deck that went again 5-2.

Third draft: another Lord Steyer's Tower! Followed by 2 Wasteland Brokers, one being something like pick 7. That deck was gross, obviously the Legendary Site was in my market. Went 6-1.

4th draft, no good rares or not a single legendary. JT was the lucky colors of the day so I went for that a third time. 4 Gravity Gloves and two Restorative Process were in the deck and allowed me to do a good job by going 5-2 despite a game lost because of a rule I didn't know. That's 21-7 and I ended 30th of the first day. Before last game and last win I was 70+, very stressfull game lol. Two of my fair losses were against FS decks. Those were very agro and have Valk/Grenadins in common and it seemed like a very good choice of factions

[OpenReport] How a Noob made it to top 32 Day2

    Posted: 03 May 2021 01:09 PM PDT

For the draft of the day 2, the rare in the first booster was a Shorthopper. This card is very good and I have no clue why I never see it played in constructed games. But this first pick commits me to two factions, and two factions I am not familiar with because they only have the grenadin tribe in common and to me Grenadins is the worst tribe in draft. I hesitated a lot and finally decided to go with my lucky colors TJ and picked a Coretap or a Bastion Gatekeeper (can't remember) over it. I didn't open any Legendary and two other rare was playable and luckily in my colors: Antique Polisher and Promenade Patrol. But the deck seemed nice, very aggro with some early late games (a Waystone Gate and 2 Wurmstone couples with a lot of plunder to activate it). There was one Send to Market at 6 power, 2 five power sentinels and all other cards were 4 costs and under (mainly 2 and 3).

After 45 minutes I kept refreshing my email box to see the pool of other players, especialy the one of my first opponant. After a 3 minutes delay it is there but sadly it is a xls file and I don't have office on my old laptop. The time I download Ooo the first game starts and it gets installed during it. My first opponant was playing the same factions as me, Combrei. He had some very good Sentinel flyers but rest of his cards were meh, at least the ones I saw. I could aggro him twice. During the 2nd game opponant started to emote spamming. I was baffled to see this kind of behaviour on a day 2 of an Open. I calmly muted him and had a little smile because this means he is getting mad because he thinks he is going to lose the match and I HAVE to keep the pressure to the max. A quick 2-0 gave me the time to study the list of my two potential next opponant. I am a noob, I don't know the name of all the cards After a first reading my mental notes were that one player is scary with 2 Builder's Decree. The other is scary too because it is The Boxer, playing something PJ very aggro with 3 Covenant Peacekeeper and a Martial Efficiency. This last card is a bomb in limited and strangly I hadn't been offered one to pick during the whole open. I decided to see who the winner exactly is to check every card names I can't figure on their lists. But sadly they were the 2nd late finishers and it gave me very little time so I didn't really bother. All I knew is that he was very agro because 3 Covenant Peacekeeper means he is picking those on purpose and this card x3 means I prefer aggro over value (a 2/2 for 3 is very meh). This means that my best chance to beat him is by defending myself before outvaluing him on the long run. The first game went according to the plan and I could grab the win. But I had been helped a lot by luckily going first and seeing my opponant missing a power drop on turn 3. Second game he goes first, and very well with a summon every turn, grabbing the win pretty fast. Third game is my turn again to go first, this helps a lot. First hand I have 3 power but all other cards cost 4+ forcing me to Mulligan. New hand is better, 3 power two 4 drops and 2 early drops. I may have done a mistake on T2. I had the choice between playing a Watching Support or a Gatekeeper. From my experience it is always better to play the Watching Support but I died with a 7/7 Shock Troops on the top of my deck. I couldn't draw any unit and The Boxer, despite being a nice Guy, has no mercy and it is the end.

Hope this can help the other noobs on the current draft format if they need to complete their EoG collection before new set comes out. Thanks for reading and have a nice RNG.

P.S: sorry for the two threads, had split to avoid a posting error.

I think Equalize is a pretty great card.

    Posted: 02 May 2021 03:05 PM PDT

I don't know if this is a popular opinion or not, I just wanted to try to post something positive. I think we've all ranted some where about cards we HATE.

Equalize fills a niche as a sweeper, but isn't a blunt instrument like Harsh Rule.

You've got to make some meaningful choices and be aware of the board state and number of cards in both your hand and your opponent's hand.

It's only 3 power, but the JJJJ influence means you've got to make a commitment for it. You can't just splash justice for it.

And, it's stopped by face aegis. BUT, aegis won't protect you from yourself if you drop that Equalize at the wrong time.

All together, I just find playing both with it and around it adds to my enjoyment of the game.

Justice is a weird faction for me. In general, I really dislike it. But, my some of my favorite cards are in it. Anyone else have that love-hate relationship with a faction? Or the other way round? Card you despise in a faction you otherwise adore?
